Everything Pi Network Pioneers Need to Know: Upgrades, Controversies, and Market Slump

Whether you started mining Pi from the beginning or just followed its mainnet progress, the past month brought technical upgrades, new ecosystem features, and tough price changes for the Pi Network community.

Although there was no major exchange listing in late June or July, the Pi Core Team released new tools and updates for developers to help grow the network. Meanwhile, the community faced wallet security issues and a big drop in the PI token’s value.

Here’s a summary of what happened in the Pi Network over the last 30 days.

1. Pi2Day Rollouts: Developer Tools Over Mainnet Listings

Every year, the Pi2Day celebration on June 28 is a big event for the community and often leads to rumors about possible major exchange listings.

This year, the Core Team steered focus away from speculative trading and toward developer infrastructure within the Pi App Studio. They introduced three core tools aimed at simplifying app integration and user authentication:

  • PiVerify: Designed to help developers verify user identities smoothly within custom apps.
  • Pi Sign-In: A streamlined single-sign-on tool allowing Pioneers to log into third-party ecosystem applications using their existing Pi accounts.
  • SoloHost: A hosting framework built to lower the barrier for developers building directly on the network.

After Pi2Day, the team added backend support for saving data in the Pi App Studio. This lets developers securely store user information, making it possible to build more advanced and ready-to-use decentralized apps (dApps).

2. Infrastructure Updates: V25 Deadline and Pi Browser Redesign

In mid-July, node operators faced new technical requirements, and regular users saw a new look for the platform:

The V25 Migration Deadline

The Core Team required network validators to upgrade to protocol version v25 by July 22 to get ready for mainnet migration. The team did not confirm the deployment status right after the deadline, but delayed updates have happened before in this project.

Redesigned Pi Browser Interface

To help users find their way around, the team updated the Pi Browser with a cleaner design. This makes it easier for Pioneers to find dApps and helps developers show off their new projects.

SLICE Token Testnet Distribution

At the end of July, the Core Team gave out a new Testnet token called SLICE to about 480,000 Pioneers. This was part of Pi Launchpad testing and lets users try out liquidity pools, token distribution, and pricing tools in the Pi Browser before the mainnet goes live.

3. Security Risks and Market Struggles

While there was progress in development, the past month also brought ongoing challenges and a lot of price pressure on the PI token.

Phishing Scams Target Unlocked Wallets

Social media reports showed that some Pioneers lost funds right after unlocking their tokens. Transaction records pointed to failed automated requests, which are signs of phishing attacks. In these cases, stolen seed phrases let scammers try to transfer funds as soon as balances become available.

Security Reminder: Never enter your 24-word passphrase on third-party websites or unverified links. The official Pi Core Team will never ask for your passphrase outside the secure Pi Wallet inside the official Pi Browser.

PI Token Struggles Near Historical Lows

Despite active feature updates, the PI token experienced a difficult month in secondary trading. After breaking below key support at $0.10, the token trended lower to touch new historical lows around $0.07 in mid-July.

There was a short-lived rally that tried to push the price back to $0.10, but selling pressure kept it around $0.08. Overall, the token is still much lower than its early 2025 highs as everyone waits for the mainnet to fully open.

Key Takeaways for Pioneers

  1. Focus on app utility: The main work right now is on backend tools like PiVerify and persistent storage to create real dApp uses before expanding public trading.
  2. Double-Check Your Wallet Security: Protect your passphrase to prevent automated drainer scams during token migration windows.
  3. Stay Updated on Migration Rules: Ensure your node software and KYC requirements stay aligned with official team deadlines as protocol updates roll out
